Hand Crafted Yorkshire sash windows
Our sash windows are handmade to measure in our Doncaster workshop and fitted throughout Yorkshire and beyond. The Yorkshire sash is the traditional horizontal-sliding sash — the sashes slide sideways rather than up and down — making it the classic choice for cottages and period homes across the region. Every window is crafted from solid hardwood, pre-finished in the colour of your choice, and built to suit your exact opening.
Traditional sash windows for Yorkshire homes
Yorkshire sash windows (also called Yorkshire lights or horizontal sliding sashes) have been used in cottages and rural properties across the north of England for centuries. Because the sashes slide horizontally and need no weights or cords, they sit beautifully in the lower, wider openings typical of Yorkshire stone cottages. If you're looking for authentic timber sash windows in Yorkshire — in Doncaster, Sheffield, Rotherham, Barnsley or further afield — we design, make and finish every one ourselves.

Every sliding sash is made by hand in our workshop, from machining the timber and glazing bars through to the final factory-applied finish. The result is a smooth-operating, weathertight sash window with an authentic period look and modern performance built in.

Perfect for period & listed properties
Because our sash windows are made from scratch, they suit conservation areas and listed buildings where the window style must match the character of the property. We can replicate existing proportions, sight lines and glazing-bar detailing exactly. For guidance on traditional windows in older homes, Historic England is a useful reference.
Yorkshire sash or box sash?
There are two traditional sash styles and they're often confused. The Yorkshire sash slides horizontally; a box sash window slides vertically on a pulley-and-weight system. Yorkshire sashes suit lower cottage openings, box sashes suit taller Georgian and Victorian windows. Both are handmade to measure — if you're unsure which suits your home, we're happy to advise.
